The last email had an incorrect date for the Solar Cooking Festival (sorry), which will definitely be on July 19th--please change your calendar. And here are a couple of important actions coming up:
Thursday, June 19--Joint Oversight Hearing on Crude Oil by Rail at 10 am, at State Capitol Building Room 4203. This scary increase in extremely explosive and flammable oil being transported by rail is getting a lot of publicity but the discussion has revolved around emergency preparedness. There is no way to put out these fires (that can be a half mile in size) so preparedness simply means an expectation that there will be tragedies. There has not yet been much talk about the fact that this extreme oil will increase climate change, making the future less livable. The only safe solution is to leave it in the ground. Come to the hearing if you can.
Sunday, June 22--the March for Democracy that started in LA will come in to Sacramento on Sunday. There will be a rally at 10 am at Fruitridge Park (3960 Fruitridge Rd) and the final leg of the march will depart there to arrive at the Capitol around 2 pm. 6.2 miles in about 3 hours. Join them to call for overturning Citizens United to get the big money out of politics.
