Thurs, Aug 21—SACOG letter on Crude-by-Rail. Can you come for an hour or two tomorrow morning when the SACOG board will decide whether to send their excellent letter in response to the Valero Crude-by-Rail DEIR (download top pdf to right)? Valero will be there in force, trying to convince the board not to send it. We need to show up to point out that the letter is necessary because of the inadequacies in the DEIR (which, among other things, concludes there is no significant risk from 100 cars of explosive oil coming through our city each day). 9:30 at the SACOG chambers, 1415 L. St.
Mon, Sept 15—Letters on the Valero DEIR due. It's very important to comment on the DEIR--each and every letter matters! Please write one yourself, and get your organizations to write one. This is the best way right now to slow and stop the shipments of volatile Bakken crude and tar sands through our community. Below are a letter template and other great resources for writing your letter. We also plan to have postcards for people to fill out with their comments. We need volunteers to distribute the postcards. We may be able to schedule another letter-writing workshop if enough people express interest--let us know.
