There will be instruction, brainstorming, organizing, and refreshments! Exercise your civic rights with written comments about the Valero rail terminal project in Benicia which would send 100 oil cars/day through Sacramento. Comments on the DEIR are due on September 15. Every letter matters!
BACKGROUND: The Valero Crude-by-Rail project will allow 70,000 barrels of crude oil per day (100 cars/day in each direction) through Sacramento. The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the project is a huge document that concludes that crude oil by rail shipments do not pose a significant hazard. There are fatal flaws in this document that need to be addressed.
This issue has a steep learning curve but the workshop on Aug 19 will help you get up to speed quickly. Please come and learn how you can weigh in on this important threat to our community. Pass this email on to others who may be concerned.

Draft comment letter from SACOG http://www.sacog.org/calendar/2014/08/rail/pdf/2-Valero%20EIR%20Comments.pdf. Very good analysis--SACOG meeting on Aug 21 to decide whether to send this letter in response to the DEIR. Valero representatives have been heavily lobbying SACOG to not send the letter.
