Oil Train Actions on July 6 & 9:
Help stop the next disaster!!
Three years ago, on July 6, 47 people died when a train carrying crude oil exploded in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. Trains carrying the same toxic and explosive oil may come through Sacramento several times a day in the near future if the oil companies have their way.
As part of the National Week of Action to Stop Oil Trains, Sacramento will host two actions. Sign up at Stopoiltrains.org.
Wednesday, July 6: Memorial for the victims of the Lac-Mégantic Oil Train Disaster. Gather at 5:30–6 pm @Florin Road Light Rail Station (take the Blue Line from downtown) and we'll march across the road to Luther Burbank High Park for a vigil/rally.
Why Florin Road?
Bring a sign or banner. The program includes Ellen Cochrane, Sac City USD Board Member; Raging Grannies; a memorial vigil for the victims of Lac Megantic; and information about what more you can do.
Saturday, July 9: Join our Stop Oil Trains! action, with street theatre and tabling to draw attention to the dangers of crude by rail trains that put those enjoying Second Saturday at risk. Gather at the corner of 20th & K. Help table at 25th & J.
Direct Action vs. Climate Change: A night of scheming & dreaming with Rising Tide
California is being ravaged by fracking, industrial agriculture, and drought. While oil spills pollute our land, the oil lobby continues to pour millions of dollars into state politics and Gov. Brown remains pro-fracking, pro-oil, and pro-coal export terminal.
What can we do? Direct action is everywhere. In May, thousands took action to Break Free from Fossil Fuels. In the Northwest, kayaktivists flooded into the waterways to stop Shell's Arctic drilling. When we act boldly, with courage and with our hearts, the world notices.
Diablo Rising Tide & friends invite you to a night of storytelling, plotting, and scheming. We’ll show a presentation and start a conversation on where to go next. Bring friends; get ready to take action.
