_IN THE NEWS:
Urban Ag Ordinance
UPDATE: To clarify, on Tuesday, March 17, 6pm, the City Council is not "discussing" the ordinance, only publishing it for a week prior to the real hearing, on March 24th.
We support the ordinance, which would provide locally grown food as an alternative to the food deserts that exist in some parts of town and a low-carbon alternative to traditional agriculture. We oppose the amendments, which would limit urban ag stands to Tuesday and Saturday (what about people who don't have Tues or Sat off?) and restrict sales from front yard gardens (in the odd belief that edible gardens are an eyesore). The final vote on the ordinance will be on March 24 at 6:00—come out to show support. For more information: http://www.ubuntugreen.org/advocacy-urban-agriculture.
The Council unanimously voted to make Sacramento a "Honey Bee Haven," an important first step toward protecting these busy little pollinators so vital to agriculture. What does this mean? See the pledge at http://www.honeybeehaven.org/content/take-pledge. Next: ban neonicotinoids from Sacramento.
